Are you ready to “Get Chipped”?

If you’re not aware of the VeriChip, then you need to settle in and read this article. And if by the time you’re finished reading you aren’t getting pretty clear on the nature of the Beast, well, then good luck to you.
I won’t go into great detail in describing the VeriChip in this article. All you need to do is read to information in Wikipedia to get the basic information. Just reading that should make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. But in short, this tiny, grain-sized device can be implanted in your body so that your key information can be easily scanned. Many people consider this to be the obvious mark of the Beast.
Given how many people see such an obvious connection, it’s interesting that VeriChip Corporation doesn’t even really try to address people’s concerns. You’ll see no acknowledgment of these this issue on their corporate FAQ, for example. In fact, they seem to exacerbate things by choosing product names like Xmark!
Of course, the company cloaks its motivations in a noble light–helping to improve health care, protect infants and the elderly, and disaster management. But let’s be realistic here. Like any corporation, VeriChip has one overriding motivation–to sell as many chips as possible. A Wired article from way back in 2002 announced their marketing campaign to boost business through the tagline “Get Chipped”. Of course they can’t be too aggressive about it. They are taking a more oblique approach.
Today the marketing pitch is to implant them into babies, people with health problems, and elders who suffer from dementia. But you can be sure that they are interested in “penetrating” new markets. How about criminals? Immigrants? Military personnel? Heck, why not all government employees? And why stop at babies? Surely your 10 year old child is just as precious? It’s easy to see the rationale for implantation in each of these groups–which represent millions of people.
And I haven’t even gotten to security yet. Once millions of people are chipped, and not only hasn’t the world come to an end but the corporation actually has many heartwarming stories of saved lives to trumpet, it isn’t hard to imagine a major campaign to mandate implantation for the sake of national security. Just one more major terrorist attack within our borders could push the tide in favor of such an action.
Of course there will be those who refuse. There are many organizations such as AntiChips and We the People will not be Chipped representing probably millions who will resist the movement at all costs. But there are many more powerful and influential people and organizations within government and the media that will push for it.
Former Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson pushes for it.
How many will go with the authorities and prevailing “wisdom” who say it is necessary and how many will flatly refuse, I couldn’t say. And just when this scenario could come to a head is difficult to say to. If a law was passed tomorrow, I expect it would meet with great resistance. But in five years? Ten years? Who knows?
