Terrorist Attack More Likely with McCain
By mentor24 | October 28, 2008
John McCain tried hard to get some traction from Joe Biden’s ill-conceived comments about Obama being tested early in his term. If everything McCain does lately didn’t have such a grasping quality to it, that would probably have been a pretty effective talking point–even if it is absolutely wrong.
What?!
Everyone agrees that McCain is the safer candidate in terms of war and terrorism, right? It’s just common sense.
Wrong.
A McCain presidency would be a gift to Al Qaeda, just like Bush was.
McCain has made no secret of his position in regards to terrorism. We take the fight to them before they can take it to us. Fight them over there or they’ll be fighting us on the homeland. And it doesn’t matter how much it costs or how long it takes. We have to defeat terrorism at all costs.
Sound familiar? It should. That’s the same drum the Bush administration has been beating ever since 9/11.
And that is music to Al Qaeda’s ears.
Osama bin Laden stated their plans very clearly. Their intention all along was to provoke the U.S. into a Viet Nam-like quagmire so we would exhaust ourselves in the mountains of Afghanistan and thus hasten our collapse from the inside out. When we blundered into Iraq their plan succeeded beyond their fondest wishes. Bin Laden and his minions may be evil, but they aren’t stupid. They’re diabolical. Like a matador, they waved their red cape toward the Middle East and we charged into it like a raging bull.
And look where we are now.
You have to know that Al Qaeda is just salivating over the prospect of a McCain presidency. Just one more vicious attack on our soil that implicates Iran or Saudi Arabia could be all it takes to drag the U.S. into our final conflict. All that’s required for their plan to succeed is a U.S. president who believes that we can ultimately triumph if we just commit more lives and treasure for as long as it takes.
McCain is their man.
Not that they won’t take another shot with Obama in office. No doubt they are counting on the U.S. congress and public to repeat our anger- and pride-fueled reaction to their antagonism. After all, it wasn’t just Bush and the NeoCons on board that first train. They had plenty of encouragement from the people in the early days.
Whether it’s McCain or Obama at the helm when Al Qaeda strikes again, the Commander in Chief may have to decide to adopt a more measured defensive response in opposition to an enraged populace screaming for action and revenge. Or they could choose to forge ahead into deeper conflict to the sound of patriotic cheers — a conflict that could lead to the downfall of Western civilization.
Standing up to your own citizens to take a defensive posture that makes you appear frightened and weak in order to save the nation from total collapse–that would take real courage.
Does Obama have that kind of courage? We’re probably going to find out.
